The Philippines will welcome its fifth Shangri-La when the Shangri-La at the Fort, Manila opens in 2012.
Located within the Fort Bonifacio former military base and city centre and standing over 60 storeys, comprising 500 guestrooms and 234 apartments, the building is set to become a Manila landmark.
Shangri-La has four existing hotel properties in the Philippines and the Shangri-La Resort and Spa, Boracay, scheduled to open at the end of 2008.
The mixed-use business, residential and retail tower will be located within the new, fast-developing Taguig business district. A 30-minute drive from the international airport, the hotel will also be close to the Manila Golf and Polo Club, and 10 minutes from Makati district.
"Shangri-La at the Fort will not only be a striking new addition to the Manila skyline, but a demonstration of our firm commitment to the Philippines," said Edward Kuok, president and chief executive officer of Shangri-La Asia Limited.

Meet the Shangri-La "Tigers" and no, they are not a new football team started by the hotel group but a team of young hoteliers who were part of an innovative human resource initiative called the Tigers Programme.
Under the programme launched in February 2006 in preparation for the group's expansion in North America, young hospitality professionals from North America were placed in Shangri-La properties throughout Asia. They were to observe, absorb the service culture and be part of the service delivery within their host hotels, and bring that expertise back to Shangri-La's North American properties currently under development in Vancouver, Las Vegas, New York, Chicago, Miami and Toronto.
And now eight of them have returned to Vancouver, British Columbia, and will bring their Asia expertise and training to the group's first hotel in North America - the Shangri-La Hotel, Vancouver - opening 24 January next year.
To date, 17 Tigers have been placed in positions at 18 Shangri-La properties in Asia on training programmes ranging from two months to two-and-a-half years. Their roles have varied from guest relations manager to sous chef to assistant director of food and beverage.

Fairytale setting
"My fairytale trip still has one highlight for me: Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa is located in a crescent-shaped bay with turquoise sea with soft waves. Sand coloured rocks, glimmering golden in the light of the sunset, are located - like guards made of stone - on each side of this huge resort. The guests share the beach only with the turtles, which have been on their own here since ten years ago. Such a private bay is really something special. Shangri-La's Barr Al Jissah Resort and Spa is an enchanting resort in Oman."
