Exploring Dubai
A visit to Dubai is not complete without a browse through the gold, spice, and textile souks. 'Souk' is the Arabic word for a market where goods are bought or exchanged. The Dubai Souks are a striking contrast to the modern shopping malls found throughout the city, with swarms of people busy bargaining with shopkeepers in the age-old tradition of negotiation.
Dubai Souks are located in Deira and sells gold jewelry, traditional spices and textile. Gold prices are among the lowest in the world here. Each shop window is crammed with gold necklaces, rings, bangles, earrings and brooches. In the evening the area is a hive of activity.
